She articulated her ideas, as always, in such a way that left much space for the creative process to begin. Sufi whirling in Turkey, which I had seen recently, and Dunya's own approach to movement were the seeds for the composition. Unexpectedly, satisfaction early on escaped me until discovering that my own meditative state was key. At about the same time, I realized that over the years my own musical mind had become a palimpsest of all my influences from Bo Diddly and Ray Charles to Riad Sombati and Tateos Efendi.
